Club President

Julian Athawes

I’ve been with MRFC for over 25 years and during that time I’ve been Captain for The Rams, Senior Social Secretary, Chair MSC, Junior Coach, Qualified Referee, Chair Fundraising and most recently President of the Club.

What do you love about MRFC?

It is probably the only Club that would put up with my antics! It is patronised by a fantastic bunch of people, all of whom, I would gladly cross the street to ‘take wine’ with!

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

A thriving system that will feed the senior sides, so I can retire disgracefully!

An interesting fact about yourself?

I can ride a unicycle and play the harmonica, whilst wearing a top hat – and all at the same time!

Club Chairman

Morgwn Atkins

I’ve been with MRFC since 2003 and during that time I’ve been First Team Secretary, Senior Committee Member, Club Chairman from 2007 – 2013 and from 2016 to date

What do you love about MRFC?

Our style and unique way of doing things, together with our ability to self-police and instil our ideology into the younger senior players. Not long ago we had nothing – now look at what we have – it’s a great sense of achievement seeing how far things have come.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

To finish the changing rooms and then really invest in things our members can benefit from.

An interesting fact about you?

I’ve owned a 1979 VW Camper for the last 20 years!

Exec Member

Will Garrard

I’ve been with the Club for eight years and have been nose wiper, water boy, manager, MnJ Chairman, Secretary and now the Club’s lead on assets and grass!

What do you love about MRFC?

It is a beacon of good manners, fair play, inclusive, volunteer funded, built and run Club full of like-minded, generous and decent people who share a love of rugby and the idea of a community rugby Club.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

That we can finish the changing rooms, exterminate the chafer grubs and build our own 3g pitch.

An interesting fact about yourself?

I drove the last truck in the last aid convoy into Sarajevo before the 1992 Serbian autumn offensive.

MnJ Chairman

Huw Forrest

I joined the club when my eldest son joined the U6’s back in 2012 and haven’t looked back.  Put my hand up to help the then ‘start up’ coaching team and have progressed up with the cohort over the years. Organised a few tours and now have the pleasure of being Chairman for the MnJ Section of the Club.

What do you love about MRFC?

The need for tweed and the quirkiness of our approach. The fact that as a Bath supporter I am lovingly embraced by all.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

That we continue to develop as a fantastic community facility and maintain our values.

An interesting fact about yourself?

Stockpiled marmite during the Unilever / Tesco stand over post Brexit! You love it or hate it.

Club Secretary (acting) & M&J Secretary

Hilary Barnett

I’ve been involved with the Club for seven years when my boys started to play. I help the Exec with communications and support the MnJ Committee in fund raising.

What do you love about MRFC?

Everyone at Minch is so supportive and helpful and I love that we are an inclusive Club, enabling as many people as possible to enjoy this great game.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

I really want the Club to go from strength to strength in the leagues and cups and also for the social side to evolve, so our kids have a great place to come and enjoy time with their friends.

An interesting fact about yourself?

I can walk on stilts!

Commercial Director & Social Secretary

Andy Huntly

I moved to the Cotswolds in 2004 and my proper involvement with the Club involved dragging my football mad son along to Beaudesert to try out my favoured game and we spent the next 8 years riding the roller coaster that brought us to where we are today.

What do you love about MRFC?

I love the way the club is growing up and growing out. We think and discuss key decisions and always try to do the right thing. I have also met some of the nicest and funniest people at this club and that continues with everyone I meet in my current role.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

Well managed growth to the point where we take our rightful place as the preeminent club in the valleys. We have the best club, committee, parents and players and we do things the right way. Oh! and we have a bit of fun along the way?

An interesting fact about yourself?

I may hold the record for the longest "can't find my caravan" stumble on a Junior Tour. Chris Kite will have a list but I will certainly be in the Premier League.

M&J Membership Secretary

Tristan Iles

I’ve been with MRFC since 2015 when my eldest joined the U6’s and now have three children playing at the club.

What do you love about MRFC?

I love how everyone pitches in: Making teas & coffees, raising money, coming up with fundraising ideas, coaching, volunteering, pitch-side encouragement or just helping out.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

To see the club grow and become a social hub for all things rugby. And for everyone to pay their subs in September, I can dream!

An interesting fact about you?

Once, and I have to emphasise this, ONCE when I went scuba diving, the boat that was taking us to the dive site sunk in the English Channel. The RNLI are now my charity of choice!

Club Treasurer

Andy Smith

I’ve been with the Club since its formation in 1982 and played until the late 90’s. I’ve been a member on the senior committee for 37years and had many roles including Team Secretary, Social Secretary, and for the last 27 years I’ve been Senior Treasurer. I’ve sat on Club’s Exec since its inception 12 years ago as Club Treasurer.

What do you love about MRFC?

I love that the club accommodates players of all ages to play this wonderful game, from the under 6’s to the over 60’s.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

To finish the changing rooms and clubhouse and see the club in a strong financial position that sets it up for the generations to come.

An interesting fact about yourself?

The Senior Club Secretary, Rob Edmonds, saved my life in 1987!

MnJ Treasurer

Stephen Smith

I joined the club when we moved to Chalford in 2010 and all three boys played. My oldest son coaches the minis, my middle son plays in the Juniors and my youngest son plays in Touch. The club gives loads to my boys so I figured I could give something back by becoming Treasurer.

What do you love about MRFC?

I love turning up to Hollybush on a Sunday morning and seeing 300 kids running around with smiles on their faces and the adults with collars turned up against the wind.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

I would love this club to continue to become more inclusive, quirky and inspirational for kids of all ages...

An interesting fact about yourself?

I wish I were young enough to still play...

Director of Rugby

Tom Smith

I joined Minchinhampton through Touch sessions at Wycliffe. The club made me feel so welcome, so when the opportunity came to give back to the club I jumped at the opportunity.

What do you love about MRFC?

I love how friendly the club is and how willing members are to help and support each other in and outside of rugby.

What are your hopes for the future of MRFC?

I am hoping to see the club continue to grow and see our minis successfully progress into the juniors, seniors and Tups with a smile on their face.

An interesting fact about yourself?

I am yet to step on the historic turf of the common pitch.
